I finished these two banners, approx. 72" long by 26" wide, just in time for Easter.
Some of the fabrics used on Sancta Maria Magdalena were taken from old altar covers no longer in use in our parish. The backing is a polyester damask designed for draperies; most of the other fabrics are quilting cottons. The faces, hands, and feet are painted in acrylics on a wonderful fabric called Lutradur.
I wanted to convey some of the joy Mary Magdalene felt when first realizing that Jesus was risen from the dead! This was easier than deciding how to portray the Blessed Virgin. It seemed that she should be serene, at peace, while deeply filled with wonder and happiness.
It is always fun to work with beautiful fabrics and glorious meditations on the Resurrection of Christ. A blessed Easter season to all!
